Microsoft just delivered their keynote on the Windows 8 Phone Operating System. Scheduled for a fall release.
Highlights covered in the keynote:
- NFC enabled wallet with payment and loyalty cards, as well as advertisement and business card scanning
- New start screen with greater customization
- Enterprise features, like secure boot, encryption, domain level management.
- Internet Explorer 10 Mobile
- Nokia map technology with turn by turn navigation
- Support for multicore CPUs, HD resolution displays, and SD Cards
Unfortunately, current Windows 7, and 7.5 phones will not be eligible for an upgrade to this OS. Microsoft did announce that a 7.8 update would be available for those devices.
